The world’s best Blue Sapphires (nilam) are found in Kashmir – a “quintessentially rich, royal, velvety blue”. 

   Colored stones are a mixture of elements in varying combinations. Since all elements vary in atomic weight, so do gemstones.

Many famous gems, such as the Black Prince’s Ruby and the Timor Ruby in the crown jewels of England, aren’t rubies at all. They are spectacular large red spinels instead.

  Red spinel is an excellent and less expensive alternative to ruby. 

  Spinel belongs to the cubic system and, unlike ruby and sapphire, is  singly refractive.

The fastest and easiest way to separate the two gems is by looking for double refraction or its absence.

A crystal of pure corundum would be colorless. But even the tiniest dash of an impurity imparts a vivid color. If the crystal picks up traces of chromium, it glows with the deep red of a ruby. Any other ingredient, tinting the gem with another color, gives us a sapphire. Though we think of sapphires as blue, they can range in color from yellow to green and purple. The rare Padparadsha (“lotus flower”) type is a lovely orange sapphire.  


GemStones are also porous & non-porous.

6 prongs are many times better than 4 prongs mounting of Rings. Therefore, always insist your jeweler that to make of 6 prongs if possible.

Firoja is a stone that is assume to be powered enough to save from accidents. So, if u are a new learner driving a car, better to worn Firoja before landing your car in traffic.

Don't confuse Karat with carat. where Karat is the unit to measure the purity of gold, Carat is used to weight Gemstones & denoted as ct.   1gm= 4.97 ct.    24kt=100% pure gold, 18kt=75% pure gold & 12 kt=50% pure gold. 12 kt. gold is also known as
White Gold.

Two differently cut Gemstones of the same weight from the same raw may vary heavily in prices. Therefore, you must ready to pay more if wants to a beautifully cut gemstone. Therefore "64 facing" diamonds are in great demand & garners more value.
